“One by one, staff members came by and peeked into the room to catch a glimpse of the remarkable moment. Afterwards, the assistant told me that even with medication, the patient had been difficult to control and they have never seen her so calm and relaxed. Lyla was the only one that could relax the mental health patient. When we had entered the room, Lyla started wagging her tail. Lyla’s excitement made the patient happy. Though she was relaxing, the woman’s body was still rigid. Lyla put her front paws on the bed while wagging her tail. Once invited, Lyla pulled herself onto the bed and laid next to the woman. Lyla snuggled up to her and laid her head on the woman’s shoulder. The woman rested her other arm across Lyla, exhaled deeply and sank her head into the pillow.
